The FNQLA is an organisation made up of local practitioners, barristers, judiciary, magistrates and students and currently has a membership of approximately 130. The aim of the FNQLA is to provide a valuable social and professional forum so that local practitioners, students, the judiciary and the magistracy can interact on issues affecting the industry locally and across the state. The Association achieves these objective through hosting regular events relevant to practitioners in the region, and by regularly disseminating relevant information to our members.
Members of the FNQLA enjoy exclusive invitations to FNQLA events throughout the year which are attended by many members of our profession, students, the judiciary and distinguished guests, all at a subsidised rate. With the eagerness and enthusiasm of the Committee in recent times the FNQLA has been able to organise and/or assist financially with many events including:
- Carbolic Smoke Ball;
- Stanley Jones QC Cup;
- Annual Court of Appeal networking event;
- Women in the law breakfast event;
- Annual Chief Justice visit networking event;
- QLS Symposium;
- The North Queensland Annual Law Conference;
- FNQLA Moot Competition;
- Annual CPD Event;
- Annual Christmas Luncheon; and
- Support of JCU functions including careers fair, mooting and various student competitions.
The FNQLA brings together fellow professionals and facilitates information sharing specific to issues affecting our industry on a local, State and national level, and has the resources to ensure that our Far Northern voices are heard. As well as representing its membership, the FNQLA strives to give back to the local community through regular donations and fundraising. We are proud to donate proceeds from some of our events to various local charities.
